Louis Nelson/The Gothic Jazz Band: Roger Nicholls (banjo); Dick Douthwaite (clarinet, saxophone); Bee Minter (trumpet); Richard Simmons (piano); Ron Clarkson (bass instrument); Alan Ward (drums).
Recording information: Surrey, England (1974).
Trombonist Louis Nelson was one of the original New Orleans Preservation Hall jazz musicians. He continued working long after most of his contemporaries had either retired or expired. This live recording documents Nelson's work with the Gothic Jazz Band; recorded at a 1974 show in England, it finds Nelson backed by some of the finest trad-jazz musicians in the U.K. They march confidently and energetically through Dixieland classics such as "Darktown Strutter's Ball" and "When the Saints Go Marchin' In."
