Description by OLDIES.com:

This swashbuckling nautical adventure, starring the incomparable Douglas Fairbanks, made film history as one of the first full features shot entirely in Technicolor. Here, he plays a nobleman who wants to revenge his father's murder, so he boards a pirate vessel disguised as one of the thieving, villainous rapscallions, and sets about achieving his goal. On the high seas, the athletic Fairbanks provides a no-holds barred, rip-roaring, stunt-filled voyage -- complete with a one-man takeover of a merchant ship. Note: This release of The Black Pirate is in black & white.

Rating 5.0 A Great Film of the 20s! Movie Lover: from San Francisco, CA US -- October, 4, 2009

This is a great film of the 20s. It shows you Douglas Fairbanks at his acrobatic best. His winning grin, smile, and cavalier style are great to watch. He carefully guided every aspect of the making of the film. It's a fantastic pirate adventure movie. However, since it was filmed in amazing (two strip?) color, don't settle for the black and white version, unless you can't afford the color one. At the time it was made, many felt that color distracted too much from the movie! (The same complaint was lodged against the introduction of sound into movies.) Get the color version and you can convert anyone to the joy of watching the great silent films!
