Product Description:

Set in late 19th-century Pennsylvania, this gripping social drama tells the story of an undercover detective (Richard Harris) sent to a coal mining community to expose a secret society of Irish-American miners battling exploitation at the hand of the owners. Based on a true story, the film accurately portrays the rebellious leader of the Molly Maguires (Sean Connery), and his will to stop at nothing--even murder--to achieve social justice.

Product Description:

The Molly Maguires was a secret society of militant coal miners who battled their exploitation by mine owners with violence, intimidation… and sometimes murder. Based on actual events, this gripping story is a sympathetic and accurate account of the Irish-American miners' struggle. Richard Harris (Gladiator, Camelot) plays a detective on undercover assignment for the owners, fighting his own conscience. Academy Award®–winner Sean Connery (Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade, The Untouchables) is the tough and suspicious leader of the Mollies who repeatedly tests the newcomer's loyalty. Excellent photography and fine action scenes add to the realism of this vivid social drama.

Plot Synopsis:

This dramatic film is based on the true story of a workers' struggle that took place in 1876.
A Pinkerton detective is hired by mine owners in Pennsylvania to infiltrate a secret society known as the Molly Maguires. This Irish-American group supposedly uses terrorist tactics, including dynamiting trains and supplies of coal, to win better working conditions and wages for the oppressed miners.
