Man on the Eiffel Tower
Movie Lover: from Cambridge, OH US -- October, 4, 2007
Laughton and Tone are fascinating in this cat and mouse game. I enjoyed seeing Jean Wallace (Tone's wife at the time and later wife of Cornell Wilde); she made too few films. Best of all is seeing Paris in the late 1940's. Color is faded, but you get over it.
an unusual maigret movie
Movie Lover: DAVID PYKE from Norwich, England UK -- January, 24, 2005
i really enjoyed this film. although the colours are a bit faded this suited the melancholy story that onfolds during the course of the movie. laughton is excellent as maigret but is outshoe by tone as a really nasty pyschotic killer. the finale on the eiffel tower is truly exciting.
LAUGHTON and TONE are great together
Movie Lover: John T from Redding, CA US -- October, 27, 2003
Sit back and enjoy an interesting little movie directed by Burgess Meredith.
Franchot Tone is a wonderfully sinister villain and Charles Laughton is equally cunning as Inspector Maigret.
As an added bonus, Meredith's filming gives us beautiful views of post World War II Paris.
So turn up the volume and enjoy this tight little thriller with three great actors in an unusual and captivating movie.
