During the 1920's, the mad rush for oil changed Tulsa from a sleepy plains town to a bustling metropolis. It seemed as if Tulsa became the oil capital of the world virtually overnight, but at what cost?
Cherokee Lansing (Susan Hayward), a beautiful cattleman's daughter, loses her father in a freak oil mining accident. Determined to save her ranch, she attempts to single-handedly challenge a powerful oil mogul, only to become one herself.
Director Stuart Heisler's (The Biscuit Eater, Among the Living) Tulsa is a tale of greed, power and difficult choices. With an excellent supporting cast featuring Robert Preston (Union Pacific, The Music Man) and Pedro Armendariz (The Pearl, The Fugitive) and explosive special effects, Tulsa is a true American classic.
A rancher's daughter fights a one-woman war in oil-field country. She wins the struggle and builds an oil empire. The film received an Academy Award Nomination for Best Special Effects.

Original Chick Flick
Movie Lover: Big Dix Flix from Oakmulgee -- June, 20, 2004
I watched this with my dad when I was a kid. Hayward's preformance as a headstrong 1930's FEMALE oil tycoon is astounding! My dad told me that the palendrone which can be made by spelling Tulsa backwards (and causes the oldies dot com bot to nix your review) was started concerning this movie. At the time I was too young to know anything about nixeing naughty bits or palendrones. But I did like the movie.
