The Bluejays and The Paragons, two Rhythm and Blues groups from the West Coast who were successful at evoking the Doo Wop sound of the East, are showcased at their best in this collection of tracks they originally recorded for Milestone.
Collectables' The Bluejays Meet the Paradons is a bit of a treasure trove for doo-wop collectors. The title is a little misleading: the Bluejays dominate the proceedings -- 14 of the 18 tracks are theirs -- and they're a better vocal group than the Paradons, who nevertheless have an extraordinary single with "Diamonds and Pearls." Since it's the first time most of the material here has been released on CD, the disc will be of interest to hardcore doo-wop collectors, especially since the Bluejays have a couple of sides that are quite nice. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
