an "overstock" item that is offered for sale at a price significantly lower

Part of Collectables' Spotlite series, this collects 13 tracks originally issued by Philadelphia's Gotham Records, plus one unreleased outtake. Gotham was a hotbed for great, crude early doo-wop, and this set does not disappoint, kicking off with the beautiful "God Only Knows" by the Capris and including such obscure gems as the Whispers' "Fool Heart," the Captans' "I Love You So," the Dreamers' crude "I Need a Girl," and the Gazelles' rocking "Pretty Baby Baby." Like the other volumes in this series, there are no liner notes or recording information -- typical of early Collectables packaging -- but the transfers are surprisingly clean, especially considering that most of the original Gotham masters are missing in action. ~ Cub Koda
