Performers, Cast and Crew:
Wall Street Journal - 03/28/2013
"Gosling was superb as the explosive lover in the director's previous film, BLUE VALENTINE, and he's superb once again as Luke..."
Los Angeles Times - 03/28/2013
"[T]he movie is intimate in its telling....Moving, evocative and even a little hopeful.
New York Times - 03/29/2013
"THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES has a lot to say about class, manhood and the curious operations of fate, themes that Mr. Cianfrance articulates with blunt conviction and, at times, impressive artistry."
USA Today - 03/28/2013
"A riveting crime thriller....This gorgeously photographed, wisely crafted and somber drama proceeds in unexpected directions, which makes it all the more engrossing."
A.V. Club - 03/28/2013
"[With] another riveting star turn from Ryan Gosling, who lends his soulful trick motorcycle rider turned outlaw antihero the minimalist magnetism of a young Steve McQueen."
Total Film - 03/30/2013
4 stars out of 5 -- "Like THE DEER HUNTER, this is a picture that glowers with somberness and maleness as it blends the intimate, epic and mythic over an expansive canvas."
Rolling Stone - 03/28/2013
3 stars out of 4 -- "It's a beast of a movie, an emotional roller coaster....[Cianfrance] takes you on a hell of a ride."
Empire - 04/05/2012
4 stars out of 5 -- "[T]his is beautiful and bold filmmaking."
In Derek Cianfrance's THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES, Ryan Gosling plays Luke, a drifter who makes a living doing motorcycle stunts in a traveling carnival. When he discovers that he has an infant son, he decides he wants to be able to take care of the child. He meets an ex-convict who knows how to rob banks, and learns from him how to pull off heists. His actions cause his life to become intertwined with a police officer named Avery (Bradley Cooper), who chases after him during a robbery. THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES screened at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival.
