Description by OLDIES.com:

"Crime Wave Rips City" screams newspaper headlines as two rival gangs carry out abductions, payoffs and random shootings on the dark streets of the metropolis. The police commissioner demands results from short-tempered Police Chief Murphy. Correspondence school sleuth Cosmo Jones is only too eager to help. Unfortunately, the high-strung flatfoot wants no part of the would-be detective and his partner Eustace. After Sgt. Pat Flanagan is demoted on a false charge of gunning down an innocent bystander, the amateur crime fighting duo spring into action to clear the policeman's name and solve a gangland kidnapping in the process.

Frank Graham recreates his original CBS radio role of amateur detective Cosmo Jones and receives good-natured support from comic masters Mantan Moreland and Edgar Kennedy. Moreland is best remembered for playing Charlie Chan's chauffeur in Monogram's popular detective series. Vaudeville and musical comedy vet Kennedy was the master of the 'slow burn' and appeared in many famous Laurel and Hardy and Our Gang shorts.

Rating 3.5 Mantan Moreland steals this one Movie Lover: from WORTHINGTON, OH US -- October, 12, 2011

You've seen this film a hundred times before and probably done much better but I still recommend this title. The script and characters are cliche ridden but enjoyable. The movie really kicks into high gear with the addition of Moreland's character. The man was a comedic genius and his sense of timing is impeccable. He always made it look so easy. A great way to spend an hour.

Rating 4.5 Silly Movie Lover: from Mattoon, IL US -- March, 4, 2010

Yep: silly, funny, not too believable, but a good time will be had by all. The stereotyping of Mr. Moreland is shameful by our standards, but his character is well above that of any that poor Stepin Fetchit had to play. This is a good, fun, silly movie worth your time & money if you can overlook Hollywood's stupidity in their treatment of blacks. But one question: who ever thought Gale Storm could act?
