Pretty much all you need to know about this album is that it contains a song called "Who Gives a Fuck." That seems to be Burdon's attitude throughout WICKED MAN, a collection of boozy, raucous, blues-rockers. There's no real danger in these songs, even in the menacing undertones of "Sweet Blood Call" and a ripping version of the blues standard "Crawling Kingsnake," just a pervading sense of...well, who gives a fuck. And that's the charm of WICKED MAN--Eric Burdon is not striving for authenticity or credibility, he's just singing until his lungs burst.

Even the tender Elmore James tribute "No More Elmore" and the new version of his signature song, "House of the Rising Sun," have a loose, ad hoc feel that really works well in the context of the album. Sloppy? Yes, in the best possible way. Wicked? Not really.
