Old school rap fanatics might want to seek out Collectables' First Generation Rap, a four-volume series that compiles many rare sides and instrumental versions. Not every track is a bona fide classic, but everything here is of some value, if only for the sake of history. The series definitely has collectors and DJs in mind, since vocal versions are often followed by instrumental or extended versions. The first volume features the Disco Four's "Move With the Groove," Dr. Ice's "Calling Dr. Ice," Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five's "Superappin," Funky Four Plus One's "Rappin and Rockin the House," and Spoonie Gee's "Love Rap." ~ Andy Kellman
