Record labels and manufacturers often mark the product casing to indicate
an "overstock" item that is offered for sale at a price significantly lower
than the manufacturer's selling price.
At OLDIES.com all item numbers
beginning with the prefix "VCL" are special clearance items that contain
this small marking. Because of this small marking, we are able to sell
these items to you at significant discount. Many of the audio CDs that
we advertise for $5.98 and lower are still sold for $15 and higher
elsewhere.
Rest assured, the audio CD is in brand-new condition, as we
do not sell used or second-hand product.
Chris Kenner was one of the great New Orleans R&B singer/songwriters (the great Allen Toussaint played piano behind Kenner's powerful vocals). He achieved his greatest hit in 1961 when "I Like It Like That" reached #2 on the Pop charts (and was subsequently nominated for a Grammy). His life was cut short by a heart attack when he was only 47 but his work endures in this collection. Includes the original version of "Land Of 1000 Dances."

Chris Kenner had two timeless singles in "I Like It Like That, Pt. 1," and "Land of 1000 Dances." The former was a big hit for Kenner; the latter was better-known through Wilson Pickett's cover, and both became rock & roll standards. They are highlights on Collectables' I Like It Like That: Golden Classics, which contain the great majority of Kenner's Instant recordings from the early 60s, but they are by no means the only great songs here. Kenner's body of work was remarkably consistent, and while this collection could be presented a little bit better, the music couldn't be any more enjoyable. This is fine New Orleans R&B. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
