4 stars out of 5 -- "[T]he Velvets were still better live. This remarkably good concert is a composite from three at the Paris Olympia."
Description by OLDIES.com:
Following five years of Lou Reed's unprecedented songwriting achievements, the band's pioneering live shows, groundbreaking recordings - not to mention their eternal influence on the history of rock 'n' roll - The Velvet Underground finally decided to call it quits in 1970s. The last thing anyone expected was to hear from them again. After the Velvets announced plans for a reunion tour in Europe, with select dates opening for U2, expectations of a U.S. tour rose to a fever pitch. Tragically, the Velvets broke up once again before reaching the States, and shortly afterwards guitarist Sterling Morrison succumbed to cancer, leaving the clamoring fans with only Live MCMXCIII to console themselves. Velvet Redux: Live MCMXCIII contains not only brilliant versions of Velvet Underground classics like "Femme Fatale," "Pale Blue Eyes," and "Heroin," but also its share of ultra-obscure numbers such as the bombastic "Hey Mr. Rain" and drummer Maureen Tucker's sweetly innocent singing on "I'm Sticking With You." The Velvet Underground reunion may never have reached America, but this video stands as a fitting tribute to the legacy of Lou Reed, John Cale, Sterling Morrison and Maureen Tucker and their spirit of music meant to change the lives of each and every listener.
Product Description:
