Record labels and manufacturers often mark the product casing to indicate
an "overstock" item that is offered for sale at a price significantly lower
than the manufacturer's selling price.
At OLDIES.com all item numbers
beginning with the prefix "VCL" are special clearance items that contain
this small marking. Because of this small marking, we are able to sell
these items to you at significant discount. Many of the audio CDs that
we advertise for $5.98 and lower are still sold for $15 and higher
elsewhere.
Rest assured, the audio CD is in brand-new condition, as we
do not sell used or second-hand product.
Lightnin' Hopkins was one of the greatest acoustic and electric Folk-Blues guitarists of all time. On this set of recordings made in 1954 for Herald, he plays blistering electric guitar on a series of blasting rockers in front of drummer Ben Turner and bassist Donald Cooks.

Lightnin' Hopkins in a heavily amplified mode (especially for 1954!) and tearing it up with some of the wildest licks of his long and storied career! It's hard to fathom a more torrid tempo than the one he employs for "Hopkins' Sky Hop," and "Flash Lightnin'," "Lightnin's Boogie," and "Lightnin' Stomp" aren't far behind. Alas, Hopkins' Herald waxings didn't sell particularly well -- though they're downright astonishing in retrospect. ~ Bill Dahl
