Recorded live at Basin Street East, New York, New York on January 14, 1964. Includes liner notes by Rex Stewart.
A radio broadcast of a complete concert by Duke and Co., performed at Basin Street East in New York City in 1964, this disc features the Orchestra going full-tilt on the maestro's classic compositions. Textured, evocative pieces like "Passion Flower" and "Silk Lace" are juxtaposed with jumpin' dance hall tunes like "Rockin' In Rhythm" and "Jam With Sam" as well as more gentle faves like "Sophisticated Lady" and "Satin Doll." Duke's ceaselessly impressive compositional genius and the tightly-knit efforts of his Orchestra are both given ample attention on BASIN STREET EAST.
