3 stars out of 5 - "...[A] fine solo record....Wood's own work is sidelined in favor of cover's and tributes...and the musicians play in a way that people who might care about those things would care about..."
Mojo (Publisher) - 6/00, p.118
"...In 1992 he headed out on his first-ever solo tour, the highlights of which are captured here....a pleasurably predictable romp through his back catalog..."
Personnel: Ron Wood (vocals, guitar); Bernard Fowler (vocals); Johnny Lee Schell (guitar); Ian McLagan, Chuck Leavell (keyboards); Shaun Solomon (bass); Wayne P. Sheely (drums).
Recorded at Electric Ladyland, New York, New York on December 12, 1992 and Austin, Texas on November 13, 1993.
U.K. edition.
Although released in 2000, Ron Wood's LIVE AND ECLECTIC contains songs recorded live in 1992 at New York City's Electric Lady Studios and a year later in Austin, Texas (while Wood was on tour in support of his solo release SLIDE ON THIS). Wood splits the vocal duties with Bernard Fowler throughout, and still manages to cook up tasty rock n' roll all these years later. Included are such covers as "It's Only Rock N' Roll" (a song the Rolling Stones recorded with Wood back in '74, although he wasn't a member at the time), the Faces' raucous rocker "(I Know) I'm Losing You," and Parliament/Funkadelic's funky instrumental "(I Wanna) Testify." LIVE AND ECLECTIC does a faithful job of capturing the off-the-cuff feel that only Ron Wood can create on stage.
