When Al Anderson's solo album was recorded and released in 1972, he was every bit the naturally seasoned writer and player. After some regional hits in the late '60s with his band The Wildweeds, he joined NRBQ in 1970. His guitar playing, singing and songs were heard with that outfit for the next 23 years until he left to concentrate on his burgeoning writing career.
The new issue of this set now includes an additional track, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee's "C'mon If You're Comin'," which, along with Hank Williams' "Honky Tonkin'" joins nine Anderson originals which are every bit the equal of the covers. The small ensemble is comprised of a couple of the Wildweeds and Terry Adams and Tom Staley from NRBQ. The music stands gracefully at the crossroads of country, blues and soul, bringing to mind Dann Penn, Spooner Oldham, Eddie Hinton and the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section.
