Action-packed, old-fashioned fun
Movie Lover: old movie lover from Roswell, New Mexico -- June, 11, 2008
Tremendous old time action serial. Universal used a lot of silent stock footage. It is well integrated into the story and gives this one real scope and excitement. There are three mass Indian attacks--on a wagon train, a town, and a fort--a tornado, a buffalo stampede, and a torrential downpour and flood, all on a large scale. John Mack Brown was at his peak as a western hero and had it all, looks, charisma, personality, and athleticism. Eleanor Hansen was an attractive heroine. Chief Thundercloud as a friendly Indian and Jack Rutherford as Buffalo Bill join in the heroics. Charles Middleton as the sly gambler, Ace Daggart, Charles King as his henchmen, and Charles Stevens as the tricky "Breed" provide the villiany. And let's not forget Johnny's dog Sudden who saves the day a number of times, nor the puma who puts in a striking guest villian cameo. A lot of fun.
