Description by OLDIES.com:
Wisecracking ace detective, Jim Hanvey is hired by an insurance company to find wealthy Mrs. Frost's missing emeralds. It doesn't take long for Hanvey to figure out that Mrs. Frost's future son-in-law was the culprit, although the theft was actually an innocent prank. Efforts to return the jewels are foiled when they are stolen again-this time for real! As Hanvey continues the investigation, a murder is committed and everyone is suspect. The quick thinking, smart-alecky sleuth devises an ingenious mousetrap to catch the thieving killer with his own bait. Guy Kibbee parlayed his portly, bald buffoon characterizations into a very successful screen career through the 30s and 40s, appearing in 42nd Street (1933), Babbitt (1934), Captain Blood (1935), Captain January (with Shirley Temple in 1936), Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939), Our Town (1940) and over 100 others.

Great little B Film

This no budget is a real find. Almost anything with Guy Kibbee in it is worth your time and this little gem is a good one. Taken from a fairly good print this item breezes along at a fast clip. Hanvey is the epitome of the learned hayseed-sharp enough to catch every clue while thinking about chasing down rabbits with his hound. Gets a little muddled toward the resolution as red herrings abound. A good way to spend an hour.
Delightful

This is a pleasant liitle film, starring Guy Kibbee has a wise-cracking but brilliant detective. One of many really good character actors, Kibbee brings this character alive. A fun film, not to be taken seriously at all.

Guy Kibbee is the only character actor I can imagine making this movie so enjoyable. His snide little insults & his treatment of the two 'blue-bloods' he's helping keep your interest. AND!!! The story twists round & round, but straightens itself out at the surprise ending. Enjoy it!

Really alot of fun to watch. Guy Kibbee is one of my favorite character actors. The movie works, sometimes you don't know why, but it just does.
