Denise LaSalle has been part of Ace's Southern Soul roster for nearly twenty years, with a 2-on-1 of her LPs Trapped By A Thing Called Love
/On The Loose
(CDSEWD 018) and Here I Am Again - Plus
(CDSEW 066), but she's never had any kind of ''Singles'' or ''Hits'' compilation - until now.
Making A Good Thing Better compiles all of her singles As and Bs as originally released on US Westbound between 1970 and 1976, plus the bonus of the UK-only single Do Me Right - a US hit for label mates the Detroit Emeralds.
Nine of these singles made the US R&B charts, three of them breaching the Top 5 including the #1 Hit (#13 Pop) Trapped By A Thing Called Love - appearing here on CD for the first time in its original mono single mix.
The majority of these tracks were recorded in Memphis at Hi Studios, under the supervision of renowned producer Willie Mitchell. Even though Westbound is a Detroit label, these sides are as Southern as Southern Soul gets.
With a previously unpublished photo on the cover and a booklet that features a label shot for each side of each 45, it's another must-have set for all true lovers of superior 70s soul.
