"Down through the ages has rushed a menace more dangerous than the worst criminal. SYPHILIS. Let us seize this monster and stamp out forever its horrible influence. Syphilis must no longer play its deadly part in our lives preventing marriages... breaking up families... and resulting in innocent offspring born blind, diseased and maimed... doomed to a life of misery. The subject of syphilis must no longer remain hushed, but must be fought in the open like any other dangerous contagious disease... humanity must be enlightened! Ignorance must be abolished! Young and old... rich and poor... They must be told!" -- On Screen Preface
A progressive and positive propaganda film of the first half of the last century, Sex Madness (also known as They Must Be Told and Human Wreckage) earnestly chronicles the downfall of an innocent girl-next-door whose single night of passionate pleasure has disasterous consequences for her and her loved ones as she contracts the dreaded scourge - syphilis. With a strong message that ignorance is the only thing to be ashamed of and that youth must be educated in order to evolve into sexually responsible adults, Sex Madness stands beside it's better-known sister film, Reefer Madness, in depicting the dire consequences of debauchery and self-indulgence.
Includes two bonus features: Hygiene For Men (1964) and Hygiene For Women (1969).
An exploitation film dealing with the "evils" and perils of sex. Indicative of the social climate of the 1930's with an unpublicized cast and an unknown director.

Bad Movie; Great Extras
Movie Lover: Patrick from Brick, NJ US -- October, 20, 2006
The movie looks like a cheap imitation of the much better "Damaged Lives"; poor direction, really bad acting, and stage props that don't cooperate. However, the Hygiene films are more than worth the price of the disc. See cartoon images of genitals flash before your eyes as each portion is discussed at length; learn graphically the origins of "smegma"; recall those hygiene films from high school that had you and your friends howling with laughter, much to the disgust of your teachers. Small details, like the inclusion of hair in the cartoon images, will surprise and delight you and your friends. My advice is buy this DVD; wait for a rainy Saturday, invite your old buddies over, pop open a few cold ones, and watch the hygiene films. You'll thank me for it later.
