Curtis Stigers is intent on bringing jazz vocals to a whole new level. Rather than fill an album with a lot of over-used standards, REAL EMOTIONAL consists of songs by Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, and Randy Newman, along with two originals and the evergreen "Stardust." EMOTIONAL features lots of variety in mood and style, with touches of salsa, old-school R&B/soul, and country music, but it's Stigers's masterfully understated, heartfelt singing that brings it all together.
