Five years after he was supposedly shot to death outside Chicago's Biograph theater, John Dillinger is pressed back into service by Al Capone. Capone kidnaps Dillinger's wife and child to get the reformed bankjobber to rob millions of dollars from a vault, in hopes of reestablishing his eminence in the crime world.
An inventive gangster tale with an unusual twist. Instead of expiring in the hail of bullets unleashed by the FBI in July, 1934, John Dillinger, America's most wanted man, escapes. The true victim of the government's ambush, the film suggests, was Dillinger's brother. But criminal mastermind Al Capone has figured out what the FBI hasn't, and he intends to force his rival to help him carry out one last, big heist.
