There are few experiences more harrowing than being buried alive, trapped by rubble or snow in the wake of a natural disaster or terrible accident. This entry in A&E's Unexplained series, hosted by Bill Kurtis, offers three incredible tales of people who lived through some of these unimaginable scenarios, and managed to escape in the nick of time. BURIED ALIVE features powerful footage of the rescues, and chilling reenactments of the victims' time stuck in terrifying enclosures.
Description by New Video Group:
It is many people's worst nightmare: being buried alive - trapped beneath earth, snow, or debris - and stricken with panic and claustrophobia.
Hosted by Bill Kurtis, BURIED ALIVE features three astonishing stories of people who have lived through this terrifying ordeal, somehow channeling enough strength to survive. First, in 1994, an apartment-building collapse in Los Angeles entombs a man beneath thousands of pounds of rubble. Next, in 1972, two miners are trapped a mile underground for nearly eight days, yet remain alive until rescue. Finally, two young men trigger a massive avalanche and spend Christmas 1988 encased in ice and snow.
Investigating these phenomena through in-depth interviews, original rescue footage, and eerie reconstructions, THE UNEXPLAINED® sets out to answer one pivotal question: Is there something remarkable about these individuals, or is survival based as much on luck as incredible fortitude'
