10 Movies on 5 Double-Sided Discs!
Terror By Night (1946, 60 mins.): Holmes is hired by Roland Carstairs to safeguard the Star of Rhodesia, a fabulous diamond that is being transported via train from London to Edinburgh. Holmes replaces the diamond with a forgery that is subsequently stolen, and Carstairs is murdered. BONUS: "The Case Of The Baker Street Nurse Maids" TV episode.
Woman In Green (1945, 68 mins.): Four women have been found murdered and each has had her forefinger severed. Scotland Yard is baffled, so they enlist the aid of Sherlock Holmes. Blackmail, hypnotism and Professor Moriarty all play part in this classic tale of sleuthing and skullduggery.
Sherlock Holmes And The Secret Weapon (1942, 68 mins.): Finally having found an accomplice who's evil matches his own, Professor Moriarty is now working for the Germans, attempting to get his hands on a revolutionary new bomb-sighting device. BONUS: "The Case Of The Baker Street Bachelors" TV episode.
Dressed To Kill (1946, 72 mins.): A series of seemingly innocuous music boxes contain a secret valuable enough for someone to start murdering the boxes' owners. Holmes soon deduces that the convicted thief who designed the boxes has encoded the music with the location of printing plates stolen from the Bank of England.
Sherlock Holmes & The Deadly Necklace (1962, 90 mins.): Christopher Lee takes a shot at playing Holmes in this German/French/Italian co-production based on the novel "The Valley Of Fear." Holmes and Watson investigate the theft of Cleopatra's necklace. BONUS: "The Case Of The Belligerent Ghost" TV episode.
A Study In Scarlet (1933, 71 mins.): This Holmes adventure involves a secret society that collects the assets of its deceased members and redistributes the wealth amongst the surviving members. As one might guess, members are soon dropping like flies and Holmes and Watson are on the case!
The Triumph Of Sherlock Holmes (1935, 84 mins.): We see Holmes drawn out of retirement to investigate the murder of a coal miner arranged by none other than Professor Moriarty. Ian Fleming (not to be confused with the creator of James Bond) plays Watson, as he did in four out of the five Wontner films. BONUS: "The Case Of The Blind Man's Bluff" TV episode.
Murder At The Baskervilles (1937, 67 mins.): While Holmes is vacationing at the Baskerville estate, Henry Baskerville's daughter's fiancee Jack Trevor is accused of stealing a racehorse named Silver Blaze and murdering its owner. Holmes not only proves Jack's innocence, but also deduces that the true villain is once again Professor Moriarty.
Sign Of The Four (1932, 74 mins.): For this film alone, Ian Hunter plays Watson to Wontner's Holmes. Mary Morstan seeks out the detective to protect her from a treasure-hunting escaped criminal. Holmes and Watson's investigation takes them into a seedy carnival underworld. BONUS: "The Case Of The Eiffel Tower" TV episode.
The Speckled Band (1931, 84 mins.): An interesting entry in the film history of Sherlock Holmes. Not only is this Raymond Massey's only turn as Holmes, but it is also his screen debut. A nefarious doctor is attempting to get hold of his stepdaughter's inheritance.
For those who love old Sherlock Holmes movies, this is the collection for you. Featuring additional television episodes, this set also includes star turns by British movie legend Christopher Lee having a bash at playing Holmes, as well as respected actor Raymond Massey. The films include: TERROR BY NIGHT, WOMAN IN GREEN, SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE SECRET WEAPON, DRESSED TO KILL, SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE DEADLY NECKLACE, A STUDY IN SCARLET, THE TRIUMPH OF SHERLOCK HOLMES, MURDER AT THE BASKERVILLES, SIGN OF THE FOUR, and THE SPECKLED BAND.
