Product Description:
Personnel: Tony Joe White (vocals, guitar); Tony Joe White (harmonica); Jeff Hale (drums). Audio Mixers: Chet Himes; Gary Briggs . Liner Note Author: Terry Lickona. Recording information: Austin, TX (12/05/1980). Editor: Gary Laird. Presenting a 1980 concert recorded for the famed PBS program AUSTIN CITY LIMITS, this live outing features swamp-rock king Tony Joe White in top-notch form. Although the country-rock songwriter's career had waned by this point, the Louisiana native was still capable of formidable stage performances, and this 14-track set is no exception. Unleashing one of the most soulful growls in country music, White launches into the funky "Disco Blues," eases his way through the soulful classic "Rainy Night in Georgia," and reminds the crowd of his honky tonk inclinations on "I Came Here to Party" and "Redneck Women." Though this release is mainly geared toward White diehards, the show is dynamic and consistent enough to win him a few late-arriving fans.
