Two detectives, Logan McQueen (Burt Reynolds) and long-time partner, Charles Duffy (Charles Durning), stumble onto a drug deal and decide to intervene. Logan, who is fit, trim and in his mid-50s, takes off after three young thugs, Catarato, Chu Chu and Pepe. They have just snatched a bag full of money that was a pay-off from drug lord Conrad Martin, on its way to an unknown recipient. Duffy, who is overweight, in his 60s and just a few weeks from retirement, can't keep up. One of the suspects is mysteriously shot and an investigation ensues, as Logan tries to uncover the identity of the killer and the thief.

Burt Reynolds directs and stars in this action-fueled film about corruption in the police force. As Detective Logan McQueen, Reynolds heads a cast of celebrities, including Charles Durning, Robert Loggia, Billy Dee Williams, Mia Sara, and Roddy Piper. When a suspect carrying $500,000 is murdered, Detective Logan becomes the object of suspicion. When Logan makes bail, the crime boss of the dead suspect kidnaps him and only releases him with his promise to find the killer. Solving the mystery takes him deep within a den of crooked cops.
