Los Tigres del Norte are the grand old men of the Norteno music scene in Texas. Their lilting Tex-Mex pop sound has been delighting audiences for decades, and they've remarkably managed to keep that sound vital into the 21st century, as evidenced by their excellent 2001 release UNIENDO FRONTERAS. The following year, Los Tigres re-entered the ring with LA REINA DEL SUR, full of the same gracefully rhythmic, spirited, light-hearted Mexican pop they're famous for. LA REINA DEL SUR finds the seemingly tireless Tigres still somehow operating on all cylinders, delivering a tradition-based brand of music that seems at odds with so much contemporary Mexican pop, yet still comes off as completely timeless and enticing.
