Making its debut in 1962, THE LUCY SHOW commenced five years after I LOVE LUCY'S last episode. The original premise, which followed the adventures of two widows (Lucille Ball as Lucy Carmicheal, and Vivian Vance as Vivian Bagley) living together and raising their kids under one roof in Danfield, NY, was inspired by the public's sympathy for Ball's recent real-life divorce with Desi Arnaz. Throughout its six year run, the show went through several formats. Vance starred in the show for the first three seasons, after which she made special yearly guest appearances. Season five sees the focus shift to Lucy's life outside of the home as she leaves her kids behind and moves to Los Angeles. The script focuses on Lucy's relationship with Mr. Mooney, the banker put in charge of the small trust left by her late husband. Mooney has coincidentally just relocated to California, and offers Lucy a secretary job at his bank. Thus, most of the show's humor revolves around the workplace, with Mary Jane Croft playing the role of sidekick previously occupied by Vance. This set contains episodes from seasons five and six: "Lucy Goes to London," "Lucy and the French Movie Star," "Viv Visits Lucy," "Lucy Meets the Law," "Lucy and the Ring-A-Ding-Ding," and "Lucy the Bean Queen."
