Tony Richardson (LOOK BACK IN ANGER) directs this suspenseful thriller. When Bill Davidson (Ian Hogg) makes the unusual decision to ride his own horse in the steeplechase, the results are tragic. The animal, Admiral, shows signs of flagging early in the race, then collapses after jumping an obstacle. Bill dies in the accident. His friend Alan York (Scott B. Anthony) suspects foul play and undertakes an investigation, believing that someone drugged Admiral and rigged the race. Unfortunately, Alan doesn't realize what he is up against, and the grave danger he faces. Based on the book by National Hunt jockey Dick Francis, the film was shot in Findon, West Sussex, U.K., and stars Judi Dench (IRIS) as Bill's wife; Dench's real-life husband, Michael Williams (TEA WITH MUSSOLINI), plays jockey Sandy Mason.
