Electric bassist Jimmy Haslip (a founding member of The Yellowjackets) made his recording debut as a leader on this funky but unpredictable session. Such all-stars as tenor-saxophonist Bob Mintzer, trumpeter Randy Brecker and guitarist John Scofield are heard from, Vince Mendoza contributed five of the ten originals and Haslip's bass is featured prominently both in solos and ensembles. The rhythm section is quite electric and the rhythms are generally funky but the music also has its share of surprises. ~ Scott Yanow
