The instrumental prowess of electric guitarist Bryant and pedal steel player West is readily apparent on even a cursory first listen to STRATOSPHERE BOOGIE. Recorded in the early '50s, West and Bryant prod, scrape, pluck and strum their strings with a ferocious creativity that harks back to Eddie Lang as it looks forward to Jimi Hendrix. The interplay between the two men seems nearly telepathic. The playing never falls into rote craftsmanship, but seem to spring forth from the melodic heart of the tune. These 16 instrumentals have spark and plenty of wit.
