Get ready to "move on up" with the nonstop comedic fun of the third season of "The Jeffersons", one of the most critically-acclaimed and groundbreaking sitcoms in TV history. With an irresistible combination of biting social satire and pure hilarity, America's funniest cast of characters are all on hand to deliver even more laughs: George Jefferson (Sherman Hemsley) takes up flying, wife Weezy (Isabel Sanford) struggles to keep her cool around Mother Jefferson (Zara Culley), maid Florence (Marla Gibbs) moved on in and starts trouble, son Lionel (Mike Evans) married the daughter of the next-door-neighbors, interracial couple Helen and Tom Willis (Roxie Roker and Franklin Cover), and neighbor Harry Bentley (Paul Benedict) lands himself in jail after punching out a police officer not to mention all the other wacky characters who shake things up in the "dee-luxe apartment in the sky." Created by legendary television producer Norman Lear, "The Jeffersons" brilliantly used humor to smash stereotypes and attract huge audiences, making it one of the most popular and longest-running (1975-1985) TV comedy series ever.
Remastered and made available on DVD for the very first time, this collector's three-disc set features all 24 episodes from Season Three. Sit back and let "The Jeffersons" lift you, because now you "finally got a piece of the pie."
THE JEFFERSONS was created as a spin-off from the enormously popular ALL IN THE FAMILY, with the Jeffersons originally living next door to the Bunkers in Queens. As George Jefferson's dry cleaning business began to gain success, the Jeffersons "moved on up" to a highrise apartment in Manhattan. George Jefferson (Sherman Hemsley) was truly the black Archie Bunker: outspoken, opinionated, bigoted, and rude, he was known to flaunt his newfound wealth, and his mouth often landed him in trouble. George's unflappable and sensible wife Louise (Isabel Sanford) tempered his bluster, often chiding him while bailing him out of hot water. The couple's son Lionel (Mike Evans) was an engineering student at a local college. Lionel dated and later married Jenny (Berlinda Tolbert), the daughter of a mixed-race couple who lived upstairs--a relationship George often railed against. In the third season, the family's maid Florence moves in, Jenny and Lionel have tumultuous wedding preparations, and George takes up flying. Episodes include "The Retirement Party," "Bentley's Problem," "The Marriage Counselors," and "The Old Flame."
