Oud master Rahim Al Haj, a former prisoner and outspoken critic of Saddam Hussein's government, defected from Iraq in the early 1990s, eventually moving to the States in 2000. His Grammy-nominated 2007 release sparkles with hypnotic, lively instrumentals featuring his lute and the capable backing of tablist and percussionist Souhail Kaspar. The CD comes with an informative 32-page booklet.
