Anne of Green Gables: The Kevin Sullivan Restoration

Canadian novelist Lucy Maud Montgomery has her ANNE OF GREEN GABLES novel brought to the screen in this four-part production. The first story finds young Anne Shirley settling into her new life after arriving at the farm of her adoptive parents Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert. The second part finds Anne transforming from a bright young adolescent to a well-established teacher. The third part of the story sees Anne moving to New York with her husband Gilbert, and then back to Avonlea, where Gilbert becomes a soldier and goes missing during wartime. And the last movie serves as a pre-quel and sequel at the same time as Anne reflects on her life.

This box set presents the restored version of what is arguably producer-director Kevin Sullivan's best-known and most acclaimed creation: the ANNE series, adapted from Lucy Maud Montgomery's beloved books. Included here are ANNE OF GREEN GABLES, ANNE OF AVONLEA, ANNE OF GREEN GABLES: THE CONTINUING STORY and Anne of Green Gables: A New Beginning. The cast includes Megan Follows, Colleen Dewhurst, Barbara Hershey and Shirley MacLaine. The now-familiar epic saga dramatizes events from the life of Anne Shirley (Follows) who spends her childhood as a struggling orphan but ultimately matures into a promising and gifted young teacher who searches for her missing husband on European battlefields. In the fourth and last installment, Hershey turns up as the adult Anne, who has become a famous author and a mother, and waits for her son to return from World War II, meanwhile attempting to reconcile herself with painful memories from childhood. All of the said films appear here in full, and in their original widescreen ratios.
