Tenor and soprano saxophonist Dave Liebman made his formidable reputation in the bands of Elvin Jones (in the late 1960s) and Miles Davis (during the early/mid-'70s). Inspired by post-1960 John Coltrane, Liebman's fiery yet melodious playing and his large discography (in a wide variety of contexts) establish him as a powerful, distinctive voice on the international jazz scene.
Recorded live in 2005, DREAM OF NITE finds him collaborating with a trio of Italian jazz musicians. The level of interaction and gusto suggests that of a band that's been together for years. Pianist Roberto Tarenzi performs with plenty of drive and subtlety, Tony Arco's drumming stimulates the ensemble as a whole, and bassist Paolo Benedettini's lithe approach is the lubrication that keeps the engine running smoothly.
