This box set travels beyond John Wayne's familiar western genre roles to celebrate his performances in action-adventure vehicles. Two such fictional features appear here, back to back. In DESERT COMMAND (1946), Wayne plays a pilot unjustly accused of murder in the arid wastelands of the Sahara. In THE SHADOW OF THE EAGLE, Wayne plays a barnstormer who takes on a maniacal skywriter terrorizing a carnival and an airplane factory. The third film in the set, NO SUBSTITUTE FOR VICTORY, is actually a pro-Vietnam propaganda documentary narrated by Wayne, with appearances by William Westmoreland and Martha Raye.
