Tenors Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis and Johnny Griffin, who co-led a popular group in the early '60s, had a reunion for this European session originally put out by the MPS label. Assisted by pianist Francy Boland, bassist Jimmy Woode and drummer Kenny Clarke, the two tenors battle it out on a few uptempo pieces and show off their warm tones on Griffin's ballad "When We Were One" and "If I Had You." This album, which contains plenty of colorful music, is currently difficult to find. ~ Scott Yanow
