Performers, Cast and Crew:
A wealthy ne'er-do-well tries to pass himself off as a dashing playboy in order to evoke the interest of a lady, but the ploy backfires when his disgusted father disinherits him. Only by becoming a self-made man can he satisfy both his family and his beloved. Silent with piano score.
"The Saphead" showcased, in his first feature film starring role, an actor who became one of the giants of silent film comedy: the incomparable Buster Keaton.
Keaton plays Bertie Van Alstyne, the high-society heir to a fortune who gets kicked out his family after taking the blame for something he did not do. Now he has to make it on his own somehow. And this charming innocent eventually does, but not without first undergoing one mishap after another...
Especially funny scene: Bertie trying to buy a "chair" on the New York Stock Exchange.
