During World War II, as a defense measure, a small coastal freighter is fitted with a Little Cannon in case of enemy attack. The first outing with this "dangerous" weapon on board turns into a comic naval victory for this new "warship." The captain (Vittorio De Sica) imagines that the enemy retreated because of his cannon. Filled with a false sense of courage, he sets out on a hilarious search for enemy submarines, imagining his tiny boat as a true defender of the coastal waters.
This little-known Italian comedy features appearances by Vittorio de Sica (THE BICYCLE THIEF) and Nino Manfredi (WE ALL LOVED EACH OTHER SO MUCH). It's WWII, and the captain of a small ship equipped with a small cannon becomes overconfident when he thinks he's defeated a large enemy ship. The wisdom of his conviction becomes doubtful when he takes his crew on a mission to locate and battle enemy subs.
