"...Marion Davies had a genuine flair for comedy....Savor rich location footage of the movie capital as it was then..."
Film Comment - 07/01/2012
"[A] crisp and ingenious piece of moviemaking that hums along like a Stutz-Bearcat; a stargazer's paradise, with multiple cameos including Chaplin, Keaton, Fairbanks, and the director himself..."
Description by OLDIES.com:
All Peggy Pepper (Marion Davies) wants in life is to be a great dramatic actress. But when rowdy slapstick comic Billy Boyle (William Haines) gives Peggy her big break, she puts her dreams on hold and becomes America's comedy queen. So when prestigious High Arts Studio offers her the chance to play serious roles and Peggy gets an awfully swelled head, it's up to Billy to burst her bubble and bring Peggy down to earth.
A snobby actress forgets that her career began in slapstick until a well-aimed custard pie brings her to her senses. Silent film with music score.
This film is silent. MGM/UA Home Video releases feature a stereo orchestral soundtrack.
