"It was their most persuasive musical period, one where they hitched the bold excitement they'd inherited from R&B and punk to a widely melodic and mischievous ingenuity, and it's all fully captured here."
The Boomtown Rats were founded in Ireland in 1975.
They moved to London in 1976 and came to the forefront of New Wave music.
Their debut single, "Looking After No. 1," reached No. 11 on the UK singles chart and began a sequence of 10 Top 40 UK hits, including their two No.1's, "Rat Trap" and "I Don't Like Mondays."
This show was filmed at London's Hammersmith Odeon in the summer of 1978.
It includes the hit singles "Looking After No. 1," "She's So Modern," "Like Clockwork" and "Rat Trap," which later that year would become the first New Wave No. 1 hit, along with other Rats favorites such as "(I Never Loved) Eva Braun" and "Joey's On The Streets Again."
Also included is the audience participation number "Do The Rat," which was a popular feature of early Rats gigs.
The film and sound have been restored under the supervision of Bob Geldof and Pete Briquette to give the best possible DVD while retaining the rough and ready feel and the raw excitement of early Rats gigs.
Track Listing: "Blind Date," "(I Never Loved) Eva Braun," "Me And Howard Hughes," "She's Gonna Do You In," "Rat Trap," "Kicks," "Joey's On The Street Again," "She's So Modern," "Don't Believe What You Read," "Like Clockwork," "Do The Ray" and "Looking After No. 1."
Prior to his global infamy as organizer of both Band Aid and Live Aid, Bob Geldof enjoyed a successful time with his punk-era band, The Boomtown Rats. This show is culled from a 1978 performance at London's Hammersmith Odeon, with the Rats popularity peeking--both "Rat Trap" and "I Don't Like Mondays were subsequent number 1 singles--and an expectant crowd urging the group to deliver the goods. They do so in style, delivering incendiary interpretations of "Like Clockwork," "Looking After No. 1," "She's So Modern," "Rat Trap," and many others.
