Over the same two-day period in October 1967, two interconnected events unfolded half a world away from each other: in Vietnam, 61 American soldiers were killed after marching into a Viet Cong ambush; while at the University of Wisconsin, student protestors turned violent at an antiwar demonstration. Based on author David Marniss's Pulitzer Prize-winning book, THEY MARCHED INTO SUNLIGHT, this episode of PBS's American Experience series revisits the two events through archival footage and interviews with participants for a brilliant distillation of one of the most divisive periods in American history.
