"Williams gets the balance right on PROMISED LAND, where hooky, pop-flavored choruses serves as upbeat counterpoint to yearning Americana and unadorned folk."
Paste (magazine) (p.64) - "PROMISED LAND's guest lineup has sterling bona fides...[With] power-pop chameleon Marshall Crenshaw, Gary Louris of Americana demigods The Jayhawks, and veteran singer/songwriter Suzanne Vega, who sounds both expert and fresh on the springy, spring-loaded duet 'Go To The Woods.'"

Like its immediate predecessor, 2005's MY BETTER SELF, PROMISED LAND is a full-band pop rock album with only some of the folk feel of Massachusetts singer-songwriter Dar Williams's early releases. Also like MY BETTER SELF, PROMISED LAND shows that his emotionally direct lyrics and warm vocal style are a perfect fit with this style of low-key electric pop, as shown on tracks like the first single "It's Alright" and the jangly rocker "Go To The Woods." Suzanne Vega and Marshall Crenshaw are among the guests.
