Buffalo Bill Cody and Wild Bill Hickock are commissioned to establish Pony Express stations along a route to Sacramento. The local stagecoach company wants to keep the profitable government mail contract and attempts to sabotage their efforts.
The role the Pony Express played in welding California to the rest of the United States and preventing it from becoming a separate republic is the basic plot of this Western. Buffalo Bill Cody breaks up an incident that was intended to incite a separatist movement in California masterminded by a brother and sister who are manipulated by foreign agents and greedy businessmen. They arm the Indians to prevent Cody and Wild Bill Hickok from forming the Pony Express, forcing Cody to defeat the Indian chief in single combat to save the line. A young girl who loves Cody dies saving his life.
