After a release that was challenging and conceptual (2008's Complices found Latin maestro Manuel Alejandro writing and producing the album in total) Luis Miguel's 2010 effort is a self-titled return to basics, filled with Latin pop that's built with radio play in mind. Easygoing opener and lead-off single "Labios de Miel" sets a lighter tone right from the start, then "Mujer de Fuego" brings the '80s-flavored funk before "Tres Palabras" becomes the album's first ballad, and a very lush one at that. The cycle repeats 'til the album comes to a close, and while some might think Miguel's coasting after gaining artistic credibility with Complices, fans who gravitate toward his '80s releases will find this one a welcome flashback. ~ David Jeffries
