Description by OLDIES.com:

This heartwarming version of Spyri's famous children's classic retells the story of orphaned Heidi and her dramatic quest for love and family. Since the death of her parents Heidi has been living with her maiden aunt. Now circumstances force her to go to a Swiss mountain village to live with her old grandfather. Her first experience of happiness ends abruptly when she is whisked off to the home of a wealthy uncle to care for his crippled daughter. This film is a family favorite with excellent performances by Jean Simmons and Michael Redgrave and superb camera work and scenic design.
