Arranger: Shorty Rogers.
During the early '60s, Mel Torm? recorded several brief sessions for the National Guard, and four of these are presented on Guard Sessions. Since they come from the peak of his vocal artistry, the results are excellent, whether he's giving the fans versions quite close to those heard on his classic LPs, or stretching out a little bit with a Gershwin medley. It needs to be noted, however, that Shorty Rogers takes the second and fourth song of each of these sessions, so exactly half of the songs do not even feature Torm?. ~ John Bush
