Grace Kelly received an Oscar for her brilliant portrayal of the wife, and Bing Crosby gave one of the most outstanding performances of his varied career as an alcoholic, guilt-ridden and has-been actor. When he is given an opportunity to star in a new musical show, his wife (Grace Kelly) and the show's director (William Holden) attempt to bolster his ego and help him make a comeback. This superb and timeless drama, based on Clifford Odets' play, was nominated for seven Academy Awards.

Alcoholic has-been actor Frank Elgin (Bing Crosby) is given one last chance to make a comeback--and save his relationship with his frustrated wife Georgie (Grace Kelly)--when Broadway director Bernie Dodd (William Holden) offers him a starring role in a new musical. Based on the stage play by Clifford Odets, director George Seaton's deeply moving adaptation is driven by the powerful performances of its three leads and garnered seven Academy Award nominations, including a win by Kelly for Best Actress. The film was remade in 1982 with Dick Van Dyke and Faye Dunaway.
