Grant portrays multi-millionaire Ernest Bliss, a young man who has lots of money but little to do. He seeks the help of a physician who decides that wealth is Ernest's problem and prescribes a unique cure: Ernest must go to work and earn his own living for a year, using none of his current wealth. Betting his doctor £50,000 that he can, his amazing adventure begins!

Moving from one job to the next, he quickly rises from his position as a chauffeur to the executive boardroom. On his climb he learns many lessons of humility and falls in love with a young secretary (Mary Brian). Will Ernest's amazing adventure end happily?
